Understanding Your Investment Accounts in Rankk

Rankk can bring information from your connected investment accounts into one place.

What investment accounts can you connect?

Depending on what Rankk and your financial institution currently support, you may be able to connect accounts such as:

  • Brokerage accounts
  • Retirement accounts
  • Employer-sponsored retirement plans
  • Individual retirement accounts
  • Other supported investment accounts

Rankk uses Plaid for many financial account connections. Some institutions may use their own direct connection service.

What information may appear?

A connected investment account may provide information such as:

  • The account name and type
  • The account’s total value
  • Cash held in the account
  • Investment holdings
  • The number of shares or units
  • Recent investment activity
  • Other details supported by the institution

Not every account provides the same information.

For example, one brokerage may provide detailed holdings while another account may provide only its total balance.

Understanding your account value

The account value is the total value reported for the investment account.

It may include:

  • Stocks
  • Funds
  • Bonds
  • Cash
  • Other supported holdings

For example:

  • Stocks and funds: $42,000
  • Cash: $3,000
  • Total account value: $45,000

The balance shown in Rankk depends on the information most recently provided by the financial institution.

Understanding investment holdings

A holding is an investment owned inside an account.

A holding may include details such as:

  • Investment name
  • Ticker symbol, when available
  • Number of shares or units
  • Current reported value
  • Percentage of the account
  • Other supported information

For example, a $50,000 account may contain:

  • $20,000 in one fund
  • $15,000 in another fund
  • $10,000 in individual stocks
  • $5,000 in cash

Rankk can organize these holdings so you can better understand what makes up the account.

Why investment values change

Investment values can rise or fall as markets change.

Your account value may also change when you:

  • Buy an investment
  • Sell an investment
  • Add money
  • Withdraw money
  • Receive a dividend
  • Pay a fee
  • Move money between accounts
  • Hold investments whose prices change

For example, an account may fall from $50,000 to $48,500 because the investments inside it lost value.

A lower value does not always mean money was withdrawn.

Investment prices may not update immediately

Investment information may update at a different time from your checking, savings, or credit card accounts.

A value may appear delayed because:

  • The market is closed
  • The institution has not sent a new value
  • The account is still syncing
  • A transaction has not settled
  • The connection needs attention
  • The institution provides limited information

Recent investment activity

Depending on the information available, Rankk may show investment-related activity such as:

  • Purchases
  • Sales
  • Deposits
  • Withdrawals
  • Dividends
  • Interest
  • Fees
  • Transfers

A transaction moving money into an investment account is not automatically investment growth.

For example:

  • Account value before deposit: $20,000
  • New deposit: $2,000
  • Account value after deposit: $22,000

The increase came from new money being added, not necessarily from investment performance.

Contributions and market growth are different

Your account may grow because you contributed more money, because the investments gained value, or both.

For example:

  • Starting value: $30,000
  • New contributions: $2,000
  • Investment gain: $1,500
  • Ending value: $33,500

Separating contributions from changes in market value can help you better understand what caused the account to grow.

Transfers between investment accounts

Moving money between your own accounts normally does not create new income or spending.

For example:

  • $1,000 leaves checking
  • $1,000 enters an investment account

The money moved between accounts you own.

It should not automatically be treated as $1,000 of spending or investment growth.

Dividends and interest

Some investments may produce dividends or interest.

These payments may:

  • Remain as cash
  • Be reinvested
  • Be transferred to another account
  • Appear as investment activity

For example, a $50 dividend may be added to the account’s cash balance or used to buy more of an investment.

The exact details shown depend on the information provided by the institution.

How investments affect your net worth

Investment accounts are normally assets.

When the value of your investments increases, your net worth may increase.

When the value decreases, your net worth may also decrease.

For example:

  • Investment value before: $75,000
  • Investment value after: $78,000
  • Change: +$3,000

If nothing else changes, your net worth may also increase by about $3,000.

Investments and financial planning

Rankk may use your current investment value and contribution assumptions when creating future financial scenarios.

For example, you may explore how investing an additional amount each month could affect a projected future net worth.

Forecasts are estimates and cannot guarantee investment results.

Why an investment account may be missing

An account may not appear when:

  • It is not connected
  • The institution is not supported
  • The wrong institution login was selected
  • The account was not selected during connection
  • The connection needs attention
  • The institution provides limited account information
  • The account has not finished syncing

First, check your connected accounts and confirm that the correct investment account was selected.

Why a holding may be missing or incorrect

A holding may look missing or incorrect when:

  • The account has not updated
  • A purchase or sale has not settled
  • The institution changed the holding name
  • The security is not fully supported
  • The institution provides only the account’s total value
  • The connection needs to be refreshed
  • Recent activity is still processing

Compare the information in Rankk with the account shown by your financial institution.

Rankk does not execute trades unless clearly supported

Connecting an investment account does not automatically allow Rankk to:

  • Buy an investment
  • Sell an investment
  • Transfer money
  • Change your portfolio
  • Rebalance your holdings
  • Withdraw funds

Investment information is not financial advice

Rankk helps organize and explain the available information from your connected accounts.

It does not guarantee:

  • Investment returns
  • Future account values
  • Market performance
  • Tax results
  • That an investment is appropriate for you

Consider speaking with a qualified professional before making an important investment, tax, or retirement decision.
