Understanding your transactions in Rankk

Rankk brings transactions from your connected financial accounts into one place so you can clearly see where your money is going.

What information does a transaction show?

A transaction may include:

  • The amount spent or received
  • The merchant or transaction name
  • The date of the transaction
  • The connected account
  • The spending category
  • Whether the transaction is pending or completed

For example, a transaction may show:

Merchant: Starbucks

Amount: $8.75

Category: Dining

Account: Everyday Credit Card

Status: Completed

The exact information available depends on what your financial institution sends through Plaid or another supported connection service.

Why can the merchant name look different?

The name shown by your bank may not always match the name you know.

For example, a purchase from a local restaurant may appear under:

  • Its legal business name
  • Its payment processor
  • An abbreviated name
  • The company that owns the location

Rankk may clean up some merchant names to make them easier to recognize, but the information can still vary by financial institution.

Pending and completed transactions

A pending transaction is still being processed. Its amount, date, merchant name, or category may change before it becomes completed.

For example, a restaurant charge may first appear as $40. After the tip is added, the completed amount may change to $48.

How transactions are categorized

Rankk automatically places transactions into categories such as:

  • Groceries
  • Dining
  • Shopping
  • Housing
  • Transportation
  • Entertainment
  • Bills and utilities
  • Health
  • Income
  • Transfers

These categories make it easier to understand your spending without reviewing every purchase one at a time.

For example, you can see how much you spent on dining this month or whether your shopping spending increased.

How transfers are handled

Moving money between your own accounts is usually a transfer, not new spending or income.

For example, moving $500 from checking to savings may appear as:

  • $500 leaving checking
  • $500 entering savings

Rankk tries to connect both sides so the transfer does not make it look like you spent or earned an extra $500.

Why a transaction may appear twice

You may briefly see two similar transactions when one is pending and the other is completed.

Transactions can also appear in two accounts when they represent both sides of a transfer.

This does not always mean you were charged twice.

Why a transaction may be missing

A transaction may not appear right away when:

  • It is still being processed
  • Your account has not updated
  • Your connection needs attention
  • The transaction is older than the history provided
  • Your financial institution does not share that transaction type

Check the account’s last update before removing or reconnecting it.

What if a transaction looks wrong?

First, compare it with the transaction shown in your financial institution’s app or website.

Check:

  1. The amount
  2. The date
  3. The merchant name
  4. Whether it is pending or completed
  5. Which account it belongs to

If the same incorrect information appears at your financial institution, contact the institution directly.

If the institution shows the correct information but Rankk does not, contact Rankk support.

Do not send your password, verification code, or full account number.

Can Rankk cancel or dispute a transaction?

No. Rankk displays information received from your connected accounts but cannot cancel, refund, stop, or dispute a transaction.

Contact the merchant or your financial institution if you need help with a charge.
