Why does a transaction appear twice in Rankk?

A transaction may appear twice when your financial institution sends both a pending charge and the completed charge.

Pending and completed transactions

A purchase often appears as pending before it is fully processed. When the merchant finishes the charge, your financial institution sends the completed transaction. For a short time, Rankk may receive both versions.

Example

Pending restaurant charge: $42

Completed charge with tip: $50

The pending $42 charge should disappear after the completed $50 transaction is fully processed.

Other reasons a transaction may appear twice

  • One is pending and one is completed
  • The merchant split one purchase into two charges
  • The same payment was made twice
  • Your financial institution sent the transaction more than once
  • An account was disconnected and added again
  • Two connected accounts show opposite sides of the same transfer
  • A payment and the purchase it paid for are both listed

Check the transaction details

Open both transactions and compare:

  • The status
  • The amount
  • The date
  • The merchant name
  • The connected account

Small differences can help explain why both transactions appear. For example, a gas station may place a $100 temporary hold and later complete the purchase for $46. The $100 hold should disappear.

Wait for pending charges to clear

If one transaction is pending, wait until your financial institution finishes processing it. Many pending charges clear within a few days. Hotels, car rentals, gas stations, and international purchases may take longer.

Rankk cannot remove a pending charge before your financial institution updates it.

Transfers may appear in two accounts

A transfer between your own accounts can appear twice because each account reports its side of the transfer.

Example

Leaving checking: −$500

Entering savings: +$500

These are two records of the same transfer, not two separate expenses.

What if both transactions are completed?

Check your financial institution’s app or website.

  • If both completed charges appear there, the merchant may have charged you twice. Contact the merchant or your financial institution to review the charges.
  • If your financial institution shows only one completed charge but Rankk still shows two, contact Rankk support.

Rankk cannot cancel, refund, or dispute a transaction.
