How Does Rankk Handle Cash Withdrawals?

When you withdraw money from an ATM, Rankk may receive the withdrawal as a transaction from your connected bank account.

How an ATM withdrawal appears

An ATM withdrawal may include:

  • The amount withdrawn
  • The date
  • The bank account
  • The ATM or financial institution name
  • Any ATM fee
  • Whether the transaction is pending or completed

For example:

  • ATM withdrawal: $100
  • ATM fee: $3
  • Total removed from checking: $103

The exact information shown depends on what your financial institution provides through Plaid or another supported connection service.

Does a cash withdrawal count as spending?

An ATM withdrawal may be treated as money leaving your account.

However, withdrawing cash is not always the same as spending it.

For example, you may withdraw $200 and:

  • Spend $60 on groceries
  • Spend $40 on transportation
  • Keep the remaining $100 in your wallet

Rankk may see the $200 withdrawal, but it may not know how the cash was divided after it left your account.

Why Rankk cannot see most cash purchases

Cash purchases do not normally create a new transaction in your connected bank account.

Once money is withdrawn, your bank usually does not receive details about where the cash was spent.

This means Rankk may not be able to identify:

  • The merchant
  • The purchase date
  • The spending category
  • How much of the withdrawn cash has been spent
  • How much cash you still have

For example, if you use $25 in cash at a restaurant, Rankk may only see the earlier ATM withdrawal and not the restaurant purchase.

How cash withdrawals can affect spending totals

A cash withdrawal may appear in your transaction history and may affect certain spending or cash-flow views.

Because Rankk does not know how the cash was later used, the full withdrawal may not match the categories where you actually spent it.

For example, a $150 withdrawal could include money later used for dining, shopping, transportation, and personal expenses.

Review cash withdrawals when your category totals do not fully match your real-world spending.

ATM fees may appear separately

Your bank or the ATM owner may charge a fee for the withdrawal.

The fee may appear:

  • As part of the withdrawal amount
  • As a separate transaction
  • Under a banking or fee category
  • A few days after the withdrawal

For example:

  • Cash withdrawn: $100
  • ATM fee: $3.50

The $3.50 fee is an expense even though the $100 withdrawal may later be used for several different purchases.

Cash deposits

Depositing cash into your bank account is not always income.

For example, you may deposit $300 that you previously withdrew or kept at home. That deposit does not mean you earned another $300.

Rankk reviews the available transaction details, but it may not always know where deposited cash came from.

Why an ATM transaction may appear twice

You may briefly see both a pending and completed version of the same withdrawal.

You may also see the withdrawal and ATM fee as two separate transactions.

This does not always mean the money was removed twice.

Compare the amount, date, account, and transaction status before reporting a duplicate.

What if an ATM withdrawal looks wrong?

First, compare the transaction with your bank’s app or website.

Check:

  1. The amount withdrawn
  2. Any ATM fee
  3. The date and location
  4. Whether the transaction is pending
  5. Whether another person can access the account

If you do not recognize the withdrawal, contact your financial institution immediately.

Rankk cannot cancel, reverse, or dispute an ATM withdrawal.

What if Rankk shows the withdrawal incorrectly?

If your bank shows the correct information but Rankk does not, contact Rankk support.

Include:

  • The withdrawal amount
  • The transaction date
  • The connected account type
  • The ATM or transaction name
  • Whether it is pending or completed
  • A screenshot, if helpful

Do not include your PIN, password, verification code, or full account number.
